IMPORTANT OCCASIONS... COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS
Despite the very easy access of electronic communication in
today's advanced age, the importance and usefulness of traditional
correspondence still remains. To highlight the further improvement and
efficiency of the postal system, every year "World Post Day" is
celebrated all over the world, including Pakistan, and special stamps are also
issued on different occasions throughout the year.
The first postage stamp of
Pakistan was issued on 9th July 1948, since then commemorative stamps are also
issued on other important occasions along with the issuance of stamps bearing
the names of various famous personalities. Keeping the same tradition, last
year 2023, the Department of Posts issued postage stamps and 2 commemorative
sheets on 17 different occasions. Below are the details of stamps issued last
year on various occasions and personalities?
ON THE 40TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FEDERAL OMBUDSMAN DEPARTMENT (JANUARY
24).
The Federal Ombudsman Department was established in Pakistan in
January 1963. This organization has been fulfilling its responsibilities since
then. Then, in 1984-85, regional offices of the Federal Ombudsman were
established in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta, and in 1990, the then
President, Ghulam Ishaq Khan, issued a special order that the provincial
governments, due to the high performance of the Federal Ombudsman, should Fully
cooperate with In 2000, four new offices of the Federal Ombudsman were
established in Sukkur, Multan, Faisalabad and DI Khan. In recognition of the 40
years of high performance of the Federal Ombudsman Department, the Department
of Posts issued a postage stamp worth Rs.20 on January 23. The size of this
ticket is 60x30.5 mm and it was designed by Mugheez Khan. A total of two lakh
tickets were issued.
ON THE OCCASION
OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8)
In 1991, a campaign was
launched on the global level regarding female violence, in which the incidents
of harassment during work, in addition to domestic violence against women, were
examined and March 8 was declared as "International Women's Day". On
the occasion of this International Day, the Department of Posts issued a stamp
worth Rs 20. The theme of the ticket was "Ending Violence Against Women:
Today and Now". The size of this ticket is 50.5x35mm and is issued in the
number of 200,000.
50TH YEAR OF PAKISTAN SENATE (MARCH 15)
On the completion of 50 years
of establishment of the Pakistan Senate, the Department of Posts issued a
commemorative stamp worth Rs 20 and a commemorative sheet worth Rs 90.
The size of the ticket is
35x36mm, while the size of the commemorative sheet is 168x70mm. 2 lakh stamps,
while commemorative sheets were issued in the number of 25 thousand.
ON THE OCCASION
OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSTITUTION OF PAKISTAN (APRIL 16).
On April 16, 2023, on the
occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Constitution of Pakistan, the
Department of Posts issued a postage stamp worth Rs 50. The ticket was titled
"Constitution: Guarantor of Rights". The Constitution of Pakistan was
approved in 1973 by the then government headed by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
The size of this commemorative ticket is 81x40mm and it has a group photo of
the federal cabinet members who approved the constitution. Also, the words
"Constitution, the guarantor of rights" are also written. A total of
5 lakh tickets were printed on this occasion.
50 YEARS OF
NATIONAL ENGINEERING SERVICES, PAKISTAN (MAY 10)
On the completion of 50 years
of National Engineering Services Pakistan Private Limited (NESPAK), the
Department of Posts issued a postage stamp worth Rs 20.
The ticket size is 56x35mm
and there are 15 tickets in a sheet, while a total of 2 lakh tickets were
issued.
ON THE
COMPLETION OF 50 YEARS OF PUNJAB MEDICAL COLLEGE, FAISALABAD (MAY 16).
Punjab Medical College,
Faisalabad was established in 1973. Its first principal, Secretary Health
Punjab, Dr. M. H. Tusi was appointed.
Initially, the said college was
temporarily established in the building of the Agriculture University. Later,
in 1982, 158 acres of land was allotted and the present college building was
constructed.
On the completion of 50 years of the
establishment of the college, the Post Department of Pakistan printed a stamp
worth Rs.50 and a total of 250,000 stamps of 50x50 mm size were issued.
ON COMPLETION OF 25 YEARS OF ESTABLISHMENT OF CENTRAL DEPOSITORY
COMPANY (CDC) (MAY 23)
On the completion of 25 years of the Central Depository Company
(CDC), the Department of Posts issued a postage stamp worth Rs 20.
The size of the ticket is
60x30.5mm. The pattern is designed by Mugheez Khan and a total of 100,000
tickets were printed in one sheet consisting of 18 tickets.
ON THE OCCASION
OF 7TH CENSUS/1ST DIGITAL CENSUS (MAY 25)
The seventh census of the
country was conducted digitally for the first time under modern
technology.
On this occasion, the Department of Posts
issued a stamp worth Rs 50 on 25 May 2023. The size of this stamp is 61.5x24 mm
and there are two lakh stamps containing 24 stamps in one sheet.
ON THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHINA-PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR
(CPEC) (JULY 5)
On the completion of 10 years of China-Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC), the Department of Posts issued a stamp worth Rs 20. The ticket
has the flags of Pakistan and China in the shape of a star, while in the
middle, "10 years of CPEC" is written in English. The size of the
ticket is 50x30.5mm and a total of 200,000 tickets containing 18 tickets per
sheet were printed.
ON THE
COMPLETION OF 75 YEARS OF MARTYRDOM OF THE FIRST NISHAN-E-HAIDER, CAPTAIN, RAJA
MUHAMMAD SARWAR SHAHEED (JULY 27):
Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar
martyred on 27 July 1948 in the attack of India and received the first
Nishan-e-Haider in the history of Pakistan.
On the completion of 75 years of the
martyrdom of Raja Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, the Department of Posts issued a
postage stamp worth Rs 75. The size of the stamp is 35x50.5mm and a total of
200,000 stamps containing 18 stamps were printed in one sheet.
50TH ANNIVERSARY OF RAWALPINDI MEDICAL COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY
(SEPTEMBER 6)
Rawalpindi Medical College was established in 1973 in
Faisalabad. Later on November 5, 1974, it was shifted to a building in Tipu
Road, Rawalpindi. Three major hospitals of the city are affiliated with this
college. On the completion of 50 years of the college, on September 6, 2023,
the Department of Posts issued a postage stamp worth Rs 20. The size of the
ticket is 56x35 mm and a total of 2 lakh tickets consisting of 15 tickets in a
sheet were issued.
ON THE 75TH
DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF QUAID-E-AZAM MUHAMMAD ALI JINNAH (SEPTEMBER 11).
The founder of Pakistan was
born on December 25 in Karachi. His profession was a lawyer, but as a
successful politician, he achieved the dream of an independent state, Pakistan,
for the Muslims of the subcontinent with extreme hard work, dedication and struggle.
On the 75th anniversary of
Quaid's death, the Department of Posts issued a special commemorative sheet
worth Rs 100 in addition to a stamp of Rs 75. The ticket size is 60x30.5mm. A
total of two lakh tickets consisting of 18 tickets were printed in one sheet.
While the size of commemorative sheet is 133.5x89 mm, which was printed in the
number of 20 thousand.
PAKISTAN, TURKEY
ON COMPLETION OF 75 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS (SEPTEMBER 13)
The friendship between
Pakistan and Turkey (formerly Turkey) has been a strong relationship since the
creation of Pakistan. The first ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan, Yahya Kamal,
presented the diplomatic papers to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on 4 March
1948, while Mian Bashir Ahmad was appointed as the first ambassador of Pakistan
to Turkey.
He presented diplomatic
documents to the President of Turkey in June 1949. On the completion of 75
years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Pakistan, the Department of
Posts issued a postage stamp worth Rs 20. The ticket size is 81x40mm and two
lakh tickets containing 6 tickets in one sheet were printed.
ON THE
COMPLETION OF 100 YEARS OF PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY "NOVO NORDISK"
(SEPTEMBER 22).
Novo Nordisk is a Danish
pharmaceutical company that has been researching the world of medicine for the
past one hundred years.
This company also
manufactures insulin for sugar control, among other medicines. On the
completion of 100 years of the company, the Department of Posts issued a stamp
worth Rs 20. The size of the ticket is 56x35mm and a total of 200,000 tickets
containing 15 tickets per sheet were printed. The ticket sample has been
